Abram's Pursuit

2002MarchingCardinals_300pxThe 2002 Coon Rapids Marching Cardinals are proud to present David Holsinger's exciting work for band, "Abram's Pursuit", for their field competition show this fall. The work is based on the story of Abram (later to become known as Abraham, Father of the Jewish Nation) learning of the attack, defeat, and plundering of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by an army of many desert rulers.

During this attack, the conquering armies looted and pillaged the cities, taking many prisoners as slaves--one of them Abram's son, Lot. Upon hearing of Lot's capture, Abram led an army of his own to pursue the invaders and retake what had been lost in the attacks.

David Holsinger vividly captures the essence of this biblical story through his use of modal melodies and harmonies and the driving, intense rhythmic velocity throughout the piece. As change-of-pace to this wonderful work, the Marching Cardinals will also perform "Sabbath Prayer" from the memorable musical "Fiddler on the Roof."
